Cold Mountain is located just outside of the town of Waynesville, North Carolina in the western part of the state. On your way into town during the summer you will encounter farmers markets and fresh produce stands. As you head toward the downtown area of Waynesville, you will find a variety of shops from children’s stores to furniture galleries to an old-fashioned general store. Waynesville is a welcoming community with all the conveniences you need including medical facilities, grocery stores and pharmacies as well as all the delight and charm of a small mountain town. The surrounding Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains offer a full range of activities and attractions year-round. You can explore the area’s heritage from the quaint towns to the Biltmore House and Gardens. Spend the day cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway and stop off at the Cradle of Forestry, celebrating the birthplace of forestry conservation. Some of the area’s other natural wonders include the Pisgah National Forest, within a stone’s throw of the Cold Mountain site, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
